The original Speck CandyShell cases were embarrassingly colorful. It really did look like a large M&M candy shell. And I didn’t want to carry one of those around. That was some years back. Speck now has a diversified product line of ordinary looking cases. Strangely though, I find myself attracted to their CandyShell design now when it never interested me in the past. I guess that’s because they stand out. And it is harder to stand out today with the profusion of iPhone case designs that’s both colorful and bizarre. Speck still make a complete line of CandyShell cases in many strange bold colors like pirate’s cove teal or snake bite green or tiger claw orange. The name’s strange but the color’s familiar no worries. The CandyShell case is really 2 case in 1. The inner layer is made from soft rubber while the visible outer layer is polycarbonate plastic. Unfortunately they are molded together so you can’t separate them unlike the Acase Superleggera PRO. On the other hand, all the ports and buttons are directly accessible. Another thing that they got right is the camera opening. It’s large and away from the lens to prevent hazing when using the flash. Refer to my earlier post on this subject. But if you are going to buy a CandyShell case, you gotta to do it because you love the choice of colors. You can find a whole list of Speck CandyShell cases here but my favorite is the Raspberry Truffle White.
